Growing Southern Gippsland's eleventh video in the 'Farm Profile Series' introduces Mark and Margaret Brammar of Strzelecki Heritage Apples based in Strzelecki, who grow a huge variety of heritage apples as well as various other products. You can find Mark and Margaret at many of the local Southern Gippsland farmers markets selling their various products and telling their interesting story. They also run sheep in a diverse operation that is entrenched in their sustainability vision.
The Brammars have noticed changes in the blossoming times of their apple trees over the last few years, a sign of a changing climate, among other interesting observations. Schreurs and Sons relocated from Cranbourne to Tarwin Lower several years ago, due to the suburban sprawl taking over surrounding land, making the area unsuitable for farming. Growing Southern Gippsland's ninth video in the 'Farm Profile Series' introduces Mirboo Farm in Mirboo, owned by David and Kirsten Jones. This small property intensively grows garlic and has set aside land for native vegetation and wildlife.
David and Kirsten are also involved in the Meeniyan Garlic festival which is a celebration of locally produced Southern Gippsland food. The festival has grown from strength to strength and is a major event on the Gippsland calendar. Growing Southern Gippsland's eighth video in the 'Farm Profile Series' introduces Malabar Farm in Tarwin Lower, owned by Jenny and Paul O'Sullivan. This 660 hectare property supports beef and lamb production while keeping native vegetation aside for wildlife. Shelterbelts are incorporated into the property to provide windbreaks and shade for stock.
Jenny and Paul also run Gippsland Food Adventures which combines their passion for farming, food, wine and cooking. Innovative experiential adventures are organised showcasing Gippsland's fine produce and its people. Introducing Jacinta and Tony Van Steklenberg of Greedy Guts Farm in Loch, who feature here in the 7th video of Growing Southern Gippsland's 'Farm Profile Series'.
Jacinta and Tony run a small lifestyle farm of mixed regenerative agriculture practice, including, beef, chickens, fruit and vegetables. Their aim is to sustainably grow enough food to feed their family, teaching their children and grandchildren where their food comes from in the process, as well as improving the soil quality and capturing carbon. Growing Southern Gippsland's fifth video in the 'Farm Profile Series' introduces Dan and Amelia Bright of Amber Creek Farm in Fish Creek. Dan and Amelia operate a mixed enterprise farming business growing free range pigs and operating a timber milling operation. They source locally grown agroforestry and salvaged timbers from Southern Gippsland and are also active in the Prom Coast Food Collective.
