Come along and join our River Garden Community, meet like-minded people, learn from expert speakers, assist to maintain the growing spaces and more. There are tasks for all abilities, sharing of information and produce plus learning for all. The produce is growing, however so are the weeds and grasses, we need your help!! Our next River Garden Blitz on Saturday 14th of August will again feature local Horticulture teacher Adrian James, who will this time be helping us to control pests, diseases and disorders with the I.D. / Treat / Manage approach. Participants are asked to bring along a photo or a bagged sample of a pest, disease or disorder on your vegetables or fruit trees, or even natives so we can discuss problems and come up with solutions for you. If you have ever wondered what is eating your cabbages, why your citrus leaves are yellow or what that funny spot is on your leaves then this is the day for you! Now being held as an online event over Zoom, you will learn what is wrong with having rabbits around, how to protect our native vegetation, how to control rabbits in urban coastal areas, and how to rabbit-proof your own property. ![]() There are countless wonderful volunteers who put many hours into the managing and maintenance of our coast that are not in the public eye. Wonderful locals who understand the importance of protecting and maintaining the coastal areas that we enjoy on a daily basis. It is these groups that work in the shadows that we celebrate with the funding from Coastcare, a State Government body and organised by Phillip Island Landcare Group. When it comes to protecting our natural environment, Phillip Island’s coastal groups have a wealth of knowledge to share and inspire to aid in maintaining these precious areas. Throughout July there will be a full month of activities to be involved in. Meet and learn from our amazing groups who have a wealth of knowledge to share with the community to help understand local flora and fauna, pests and invasive weeds. Living on Phillip Island is a privilege and a luxury with its outstanding coastline, beautiful beaches and abundance of wildlife, that brings joy and pleasure to our daily lives. – we would love for you to get involved - as a community we cannot take this treasure for granted. Tom will give an overview of fungi in intact and restored ecosystems, covering their diversity and ecological roles, as well as highlight the habits of Victoria's rarest fungus, the enigmatic Tea-tree Fingers, restricted to West Gippsland in small pockets of remnant vegetation.
